Everything to Gain

It’s been a rough go of motherhood lately here. Seriously. Not joking. Since starting this blog a few weeks ago, we experienced our first child run away/adventure escapade, kid stealing a snack from a store, waking up to find a certain kid sleeping in the van, poop hidden in a blanket, and of course, all the daily happenings with four littles. Pretty sure I’ve told my husband at least a hundred times, “I’m at my wit’s end with these kids!” Anyone else in the season?

Thankfully I’ve matured a bit in motherhood and now recognize these seasons as they rear their ugly heads. They’re hard, but temporary.

Testing boundaries. Exercising independence. Talking back. Never ending curiosity. Lately, it’s been a struggle realizing my 5-year-old isn’t my “baby” anymore. I’m feeling all the emotions. I end the days defeated, discouraged and wondering “What the heck am I doing wrong?!” The reality? He’s just being a kid! I’m probably doing a lot of things “wrong,” but I’m confident I do quite a few things well. This is motherhood. This is part of the package.

I realize our battles have just begun! There are far greater lessons to learn and teach seeing as our oldest is only 5. But the good news? That means I’ve got wisdom to gain. Unending amounts to gain! As my kids grow, opportunity after opportunity is set before me to grow with them. To grow in wisdom. I can choose to grasp it. Or complain about it. Not both. So can you!

“For wisdom is better than jewels; And all desirable things cannot compare with her.” Proverbs 8:11

If nothing else desirable can compare with wisdom, then let’s seek wisdom, mamas. Instead of drowning in our complaints, how about we ask God to make us wise? I love that God specifically tells us to ask for wisdom, no shame!

“If any of you lacks wisdom, ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5

So mamas, will you join me today in changing your mindset and shifting your heart to one that seeks wisdom in motherhood? Amidst the discouragement, the overwhelm, the seriously-not-again moments, will you choose wisdom with me today?

We have everything to gain and nothing to lose!

  1. Definitely needed to read this! Every day I wake feeling dread, knowing the chaos is about to begin, and I go to bed trying to figure out what I am doing wrong! So exhausting and frustrating.

  2. Love this! The call to ask God for wisdom instead of complaining…that is serious business! Thank you friend and pray for me!
